Classic care – be involved
If you live close by, have a flexible schedule and want to be involved in virtually every aspect of your horse’s life, this basic full board option is the choice for you. You know that a close relationship is built on regular contact so you want, and are lucky enough to be able, to groom and exercise your horse, decide when your horse needs a blanket and which blanket he or she requires; to hold him for the farrier; and to be there when the vet looks at your horse.
Our Classic package takes care of the basic needs for you, like the cleaning and feeding, so that you can spend more quality time with your horse. Life being what it is there will be occasions when you can’t be there and if there is a freak storm, we will put the blanket on your horse, or if he hurts himself we will call you and your vet and of course perform any emergency first aid. But these are isolated occurrences and do not reflect the relationship you want with your horse.
The cost of boarding needs to reflect the costs we incur and the time we spend to meet your horse’s needs. Because of your ability to make this sort of commitment to your horse, the reduced rate of our Classic Care package reflects the corresponding reduction in your requirements of us.
This package includes:
- Housing and Feed
- Stall with attached paddock or paddock with shelter
- Daily cleaning
- Year round turn out
- General care
- Customized feeding program
- Salt/mineral blocks
- Fly masks on/off during summer months as needed
- Coordination of routine vaccinations and deworming
Housing & Feed
Your horse will have access to a full-sized stall that opens up to a well-drained paddock, or a paddock with a shelter. We firmly believe in an “open door” policy for the horses. In the summer months we try to keep the horses out in the fields as much as possible. Turnout is in groups, with geldings and mares kept separately. During the winter months horses are turned out for the day and brought in at night. The paddocks are accessible 24/7 from the stalls, although there may be the rare occasion where we have to lock the horses inside overnight to keep the cold out. Stalls are assigned based on friendly relations over the fences, since paddocks are attached. We will shuffle horses as necessary to ensure there are no personality conflicts between neighbours.
Our customized feeding program is geared to the individual requirements of your horse. We feed a good quality grass mix hay. If you would like to supplement with alfalfa for extra protein, we can feed a flake each night for an additional $35/month. We carefully choose our selection of grains and concentrates and adjust them according to the needs of each horse. Supplements and medications are not included, but we will add them to the feed for an additional $20/month. If your horse is a hard keeper or in heavy training and requires more feed then the budget allows, we can discuss a customized package that better suits his requirements.
General Care
You will be responsible for all your blanketing needs and making sure they’re cleaned regularly. In the summer months we will take care of the fly masks. Occasionally in the winter time if weather turns really ugly and we know you’re at work, we will put a blanket on for you, or take them off if it turns out to be a beautiful warm day, but generally this is your responsibility.
Vet & Farrier
You are responsible for organizing and attending your vet and farrier appointments, except for routine vaccinations, which we organize and attend for the entire barn. We will advise you when our vet is coming to give you an opportunity to share the call fee. Any extra scheduling requirements will be your responsibility. We need you to let us know when your vet and farrier appointments take place and what is being done, just so we can maintain our health records.
Veterinary care
Veterinary fees are not included will be billed directly. Our barn vaccination and deworming program is a mandatory part of boarding here, to protect the health of all of our horses. Please contact us for more details.
Medical Care and Supplies
You are also fully responsible for any medical attention your horse requires, whether for cuts and scrapes or recovering from an injury. If you can’t make it and we need to fill in, we will be happy to help but you will be charged for our time. In case of emergencies the vet or farrier will be called immediately, and of course, you will be notified right away.
Extra Services
Extra services are available but will be subject to separate billing. If you have any special requirements, please contact us to discuss your options.
