Facility

The barn is 2000 square feet (185 square meters) in size. There are sixteen stalls, all with their own run-out paddock attached.   Skylights above the extra-wide aisle keep it bright and cheery inside even in the worst weather.

We believe in maximizing turnout in order to have happy, relaxed horses.  Since horses are herd animals and very sociable, we believe in letting them be together whenever possible, and turn them out in groups in the fields.  Mares and geldings are kept separately to avoid conflict between the boys.  Turnout is at our discretion, and weather permitting.  We don’t mind a bit of rain, but we don’t turn the horses out in a monsoon, or if we think the footing seems too slippery.

The arena is beautifully lit, sand based with excellent drainage, and measures 150′ x 80′.  There are plenty of jumps, barrels, and cones to use.  There is a second arena with sand footing that is used spring to fall for flat and liberty work.  We also have a 60ft round pen with brand new drainage and crushed gravel footing.

From your horse’s perspective – safety, comfort, and play

The full sized 12′ x 12′ stalls have free access to a good sized paddock, so your horse always has room to move and space to enjoy.  The stalls have vaulted ceilings, excellent ventilation, lots of natural light, and openings in the grills so the horses can stick their heads out.  They are all equipped with rubber mats and a salt/mineral block.

The paddocks are mostly hog fuel based and were built with drainage, which keeps them absolutely dry even in the winter months, enabling year round turn out.  The horses love the hog fuel, it gives them a soft surface to lie and roll on.  For horses that prefer their paddocks or hate stalls, we have the option of paddocks with shelters instead of stalls with paddocks.  We also have a limited number of sand paddocks with shelters.

There are seven pastures in all, all with lovely views and safe fencing.  Some of the pastures are used in the winter to allow room to roam while the other pastures are rested to prepare for spring.  Most of the pastures can be interconnected to provide more room for the horses to enjoy, or to enable one pasture to rest and regrow while the others are grazed down.

From your perspective – creature comforts, trail access, and peace of mind

The farm was designed with the convenience of people as well as horses in mind.  The barn has an extra wide aisle making it safe and easy to pass by other horses.  The feed room and tack room are separate and the tack room locks.  The tack room is equipped with eighteen lockers that can be padlocked. They’re big enough to hold a couple of saddles and your basic gear, with room to stack bins for blankets on top.  We also have a beautiful new barn bathroom, as well as a fridge, kettle, and microwave in the barn for you to use.

The farm is at the end of a quiet, dead-end road, right next to the dyke and the Vernon Trail, and a 5 minute walk from MREC.  Perimeter fencing surrounds the entire property and we live on site.  In order to access the farm, a security code has to be punched in at the automatic gates.
